Apart Fro 05:10
You can be freed from time Left to the quarters of your mind But love will only pass you by An absent heart leads to a stillness so unkind A wounded mind a lonesome body Would you love me if you knew me? or am I just too hard to know? Even now with all the answers I'm still waiting here alone It's hard but I'm picking up all the pieces apart from this Nothing's gonna change me if I don't learn to listen No one's gonna love me then
2.
Josefin the Writer has books locked in her head soon must release them onto paper She has me worried about where our thoughts do go when they've not been named but left in mind to turn like youth gone old Why do our bodies tire so much faster than our minds do and where does love go when it splinters away? She is the place I send my mind when I need to see things not as they are but as I long for them to be Josefin the writer is collecting information on the mechanics of a memory Where will she find love? Will it stay with Johan, or another, or will she find a reader like me? She is the place I send my mind when I need to see things not as they are but as I long for them to be Josefin, you are the place I send my mind when I need to see things not as they are but as I long for them to be

Bent like a branch to the sun, rocking on the knot growing on your side, And down anyways, too much time and whiskey, And everyone gives you leeway, Are you game for tea and thunderstorms though today? I'm game for tea and thunderstorms today Don't ever get caught waiting for it Better find out what's wrong first before you jump in It's only gonna bring you down Drawn like a moth to the light, foolish and doomed in pride, Who want's to hear it anyway, auto negativity in place, And playing cards get your game face, Are you game for tea and thunderstorms though today? I'm game for tea and thunderstorms today Don't ever get caught waiting for it Better find out what's wrong first before you jump in It's only gonna bring you down Well not that down... Hey you
4.
Let Love Be 03:52
It's not that I am over all this movement in my brain It's just that I'm a friend And friend, are you OK? If loving me keeps a mind from feeling free just let love be But if loving me makes a mind less hazy don't you let love be It's not that I'm collected I'm kind of stagnant, kind of changed It's just that I love you Are you OK? If loving me keeps a mind from feeling free just let love be But if loving me makes a mind less hazy don't you let love be Love is mind and body
5.
Been Lost 03:17
I've been lost on the crossroads Wondering where to go Keep on burning all those salutations could be something Is it my way? Or is that the highway? So the last time for the ocean I've been dying to let you know something more than what I could show
6.
Mason of Oak 03:45
The Mason of Oak lays his hands in longing his father's paintings block the door why is he feeling so unsure? Once he was a bird Once he let his troubles down Once he was a bird Then he woke up empty The Mason of Oak is tired now of weeping for the days when his roots were strong for the years when friends would sing along Once he was a bird Once he let his troubles down Once he was a bird Then he woke up empty 'Cause people good people sweet people let good love go underused People sweet people I love you people On the other side of love I've finally learned unkindness is just love confused Everyone's just trying to be happy to be I've got to let them find my soul by the one true path I know you can't force nothing that won't go but you can be by seeing through
7.
No one has your heart but you've got to learn to be the love you're looking for No one has your heart but no one will give a damn if you don't make yourself a part
8.
Your comfort casts a shadow on my ageing heart I'd tell you everything if I knew how You can hurry through a lifetime maybe forget your part but you can't return to love you never knew When I was a lonely boy I kept lives in my head People I would love People like you So don't you worry about me being so worried about you it's just the way that I was made to love you through and through
9.
There's a harvest moon there outside You step out to pay it time A bearer of thoughts yets speaks none to find Tonight this wind brings memories to mind I have to show you how I've changed Not that it matters then We've all moved on then Thank your lucky stars And ever I hope that you can My minds been in/at harm Thoughts sparked in fractions And all the while ignorant from your actions A mind in/at harm Well don't wait too long not everything is meant to be Thoughts sparked in fractions Well don't be too harsh Maybe that's who you are now But don't wait too long now Thank your lucky stars

about

“You can be freed from time/Left to the quarters of your mind/But love will only pass you by”
(01. Apart Fro)

With this begins Olney Clark's debut, a documentation of intellectual and emotional isolation and its effects on life and love.

Written during Olney's Ph.D. in algorithmic algebraic geometry in Edinburgh, Scotland and Clark's lost months of limbo and relocation from Los Angeles to Texas following the death of his father and grandfather, best friends Grant Olney and Barry DeBakey (Clark) wrote the songs that would become the self-titled album as both a celebration of the gifts of solitude and a warning of their costs.

Like Olney's 2004 and 2006 releases on Asian Man Records, there are hints of Bryter Layter era Nick Drake and Scott 4 era Scott Walker. But with echoes of McCartney a la Ram, Lennon circa Sometime in NYC and After the Gold Rush Neil Young, things now feel altogether different. There is more color here, more life. They might be talking about a mind at harm, but most of all they are just trying to find a way to be.

From a story of back-to-back funerals,

"Keep on burning all those salutations"
(05. Been Lost)

to a recognition of simple paths to happiness,

"You can find happiness in the strangest place/You can find happiness in a woman's face/You can find happiness in an empty space/You can find happiness alone"
(06. King of the Bees)

this is a record giving equal weight to joy and loss. It seems we are told that isolation can just as much give as it can destroy. Whatever the intended message, these strange, impressionistic songs stay with you. In the end, when Olney Clark tell us

"A mind in/at harm -- maybe that's just who you are now"
(10. This wind brings memories to mind)

we believe them.
